Candidate Qualifications
A degree in management, finance or related field, or equivalent experience. MBA and/or CFA an asset.
FCPA (Fellow) and ICD.d
10+ years’ experience in the investment or financial industry, advising/working with large global organizations, with an understanding of AIMCO’s divisional functions and key stakeholders.
Ten years as CFO at BCI and WSIB and immediately past three years consulting to peers (SimCorp implementation and setting up private market pools).
Understand AIMCo’s asset classes, Maple model, investment structures (pools/segregated assets).
Understanding of long-dated liabilities and impact on asset mix.
CFO of BCI for four years while FTE grew from 180 to 550 and costs doubled to support implementation of “Maple 8” model.
CFO of WSIB for six years while business was transformed from annual cash losses of $1B annually to cash profits exceeding $1.5B annually and was co-sponsor of a three year $300M technology transformation.
Developed KPIs at BCI and WSIB to support multi-year investment strategy (internalizing, foreign, privates).
Built out valuations capability (people, policies, committee) to support new investment strategy.
Built out performance measurement capability (2x staff, leadership) for total portfolio management and alternatives.
Built out change management program to support new systems.
Built out Project Management Office to enable CFO to prioritize time and effort.
Experience or strong potential in a strategic leadership role with demonstrated ability to collaborate with and influence various levels of leadership (internal and external stakeholders) within a complex and evolving global environment with organizational, cultural, and political sensitivity.
15+ years of C Suite experience in large complex businesses, all undergoing significant transformation activities.
Lead organizational representative for presenting business plans and funding requirements to clients, government, Ministry of Finance and Auditor General.
Led funding discussions on behalf of the WSIB over a two-year period with diverse and often combative stakeholders resulting in the elimination of a $30B deficit in ten years.
Demonstrates a strong commitment to AIMCo’s core values of excellence, transparency, humility, integrity and collaboration, and inspires the same in others.
Have recruited, mentored, and led various departments throughout my career displaying the above characteristics.
Committed to EDI principles and have mentored several staff to assume leadership roles.
